EMOTM For 10 Minutes:
2 Squats @ 80-85%
Rest 5 Min
1 Mile Run For Time
Here are the 65 people we have signed up for the Open which starts next week on the 22nd. The WODs will be released on Wednesdays and we are going to be doing the workouts together on Saturday mornings. If you can't make a Saturday, you will be allowed to do the workout during a normally scheduled class time and we will have someone judge you.
So 65 people is relatively good participation compared to most gyms, but for our gym, 65 is a joke. When I see that we have only 65 people signed up, I see that we only have 65 people in this place who actually DO CrossFit. The rest of you just pay, show up, and go home with no idea what is really going on in this place. GET WITH THE PROGRAM PEOPLE. If you do CrossFit, then participate in the CF Open. It's that simple.
It doesn't matter how good you are. Remember there are multiple age divisions as well, so being old is the worst excuse in the book and I don't want to hear it.
If you can't do a workout as Rx, we will allow you to scale that workout, but participation is mandatory. If you can't afford the 20 bucks I will pay it for you! Even if you don't sign up, we are going to make you do the workouts, so sign up please.
Let's make it simple. If you do CrossFit, click here to register.
-Join Team CrossFit East Sacramento

I want 100 people minimum by then end of the day or we start increasing the percentage of burpees in the workouts day by day, so tell your freinds who don't read the blog they better get on it or you'll be suffering in their name. There is no valid excuse not to participate.
If you're against participating in this event, you're at the wrong gym. And your with us or against us, so figure it out.

Done!!

And People.. This is Justin being NICE..
We don't want the other Justin coming out to play.. so get on it because while we might not be too old to do the open I am damn sure I am TOO OLD to do a lot of BURPEES!!
Posted by: Liz | February 15, 2012 at 06:37 AM
I, for one, miss the other Justin. I think people owe a good 5-600 burpees for the lack of blog posts recently.
On the Open- every time I sign up for one of these competitions I do something I did not know I could do- deadlift PRs, overhead squat PR, chest to bar pull-ups, run a 6:38 mile in a 20# weighted vest, squat snatch with reckless abandon, pistols, just to name a few. The open brings out motivation beyond what I get from the daily goal of kenso'ing Nabeta.

You had me at "the percentage of burpees" ...
Posted by: EricH | February 15, 2012 at 08:08 AM
Well, I suppose making 100 people sign up and take the test whoops I mean participate in the open will measure the fitness of the gym.
Because you know that's the real goal that Justin is secretly hoping for. Just sayin.
Cheers.

Can't wait! The 2011 CF Open was a great chance to get to know and bond with CFES'ers for me as a newbie last year. So, even if its your first couple months I encourage you to sign up and participate in this community building event. It's challenging and really fun to encourage eachother through the 5 workouts!

All press is good press right??
Posted by: Jen | February 15, 2012 at 10:40 AM
You know I will start calling people out too.
Let's not go there.
Posted by: Justin Riley | February 15, 2012 at 10:40 AM
Throwing my two cents in. I did this last year after having a baby that DESTROYED my back and not doing much of anything for the year leading up to it. My back was constantly going out over that year.I did the whole thing RX and I'm not that amazing. I def wasn't amazing then.
I also hate the idea of competing.. It's not for me. I don't like people watching me.. I'm shy and I don't want to look stupid or foolish. I actually had a lot of fun doing the open. I didn't hurt myself. I didn't feel like I couldn't keep up. I didn't feel stupid. I'm glad I did it and I'm glad I'm doing it again. It's nice to see where I stack up against our members and the world. I know I'm not the best.. I get reminde of that daily when I look at the white board but that's not keeping me from supporting the gym and having fun with it.
I always say that if I'm signed up for a crossfit event or competition (raaare), then everyone should be signed up. This is no different. You won't regret it.

Wow my iPhone messed that all up.. Haha
Posted by: Jen | February 15, 2012 at 10:58 AM
When I signed up LAST WEEK, there wasn't a CFES to select, but I just changed it. So technically, there were 66 people this morning.
Posted by: Gia | February 15, 2012 at 11:25 AM
Can the Dirty 6:30'ers do a drankin' division?
Posted by: Ryan Lippmann | February 15, 2012 at 11:47 AM
Ryan, I already assumed that was RX for 6:30.
Posted by: Steller | February 15, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Sabrina - I'm trying to decide if our programming qualifies as Rx+ or Rx-...
Either way I'm just stoked that "I've registered for the Open, therefore I actually DO CrossFit".
C'mon, we all know better.

Eileen u really rock that beer keg. Nice job
Posted by: Lesley Heller | February 15, 2012 at 12:44 PM
Just do it. Don't be a bunch of pussies. You are going to do the workouts regardless. They will be programmed. Its a great way to see where you stand in the world. And if its at the bottom of the list well then that means you're frickin holdin everybody up on your shoulders and thats HEAVY.
Posted by: Brooke | February 15, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Brooke,
I'm worried about you. Using 'frickin' instead of dropping F-bombs is uncharacteristic. Is everything alright?
Posted by: adam k | February 15, 2012 at 01:06 PM
haha just tryin to keep it semi-clean! Workin on saving the real thing for when its really important
Posted by: Brooke | February 15, 2012 at 01:22 PM
That's funny, Lesley! Clearly, I have no pride. And, speaking of that, I still signed up on the first day for the open, but I don't see your name Lesley, or Xenia....
Posted by: Eileen D | February 15, 2012 at 01:40 PM
Jen,
Some of the stuff on those sites is pretty funny, but most of it seems like people with noting better to do who like to hide behind their internet identies. Doesn't seem too funny anymore when it's aimed at my event. Oh well though, just one of the many reasons to stay out less involved in social media.
Thanks for sharing your words of encouragement to the rest of the gang.
Posted by: Justin Riley | February 15, 2012 at 01:49 PM
looks like 83 are signed up at the moment.
Justin- time to start calling people out. Did I miss Roger on the list?
Posted by: Matt P | February 15, 2012 at 02:31 PM
Justin that's definitely what it is - anonymous asshats talking shit about anything and everyone. Like I said all press is good press, whatever keeps them talking about you. :)
Posted by: Jen | February 15, 2012 at 02:44 PM
Roger, and Matt and Kelli Brogan, and Dave Mering, and Chris Lene, and ...
Posted by: Steller | February 15, 2012 at 02:50 PM
Justin: I've got your back on that beastmodal thing. I left a message; presumably one of them is smart enough to decipher it. No hard feelings though. Just sayin.
Posted by: Scott | February 15, 2012 at 02:51 PM
Nothing worse than an anonymous asshat.
Posted by: Scott | February 15, 2012 at 02:59 PM
Josh, Xenia, Erin and Traci 8amer's.
Posted by: Brian Nabeta | February 15, 2012 at 03:08 PM
No Hartys on that list . . .
Posted by: brother mike | February 15, 2012 at 03:42 PM

Posted by: Robb B | February 15, 2012 at 05:15 PM
Sabrina, Matt signed up a long time agao. I just signed up today, I would have signed up earlier but kept forgetting. Speaking of calling out people, what about all of those in foundations. C'mon foundations people!
Posted by: Kelli Brogan | February 15, 2012 at 05:24 PM
Were at 85. Starting to re-write tomorrow's WOD as we speak.
Posted by: Justin Riley | February 15, 2012 at 05:47 PM
Eileen I signed up the first day. Reread the list. I agree that Travis needs to sign Barb up
Posted by: Lesley Heller | February 15, 2012 at 05:59 PM
Just signed up. Even if I end up on the bottom compared to the rest of the CF World, I will be a ga-zillion times a head of all the couch potatoes =)
Posted by: Dao | February 15, 2012 at 07:14 PM
I signed up for the open on the first day like I was asked to, but....I do try to check the blog on a daily basis, not sure if all CrossFit East Sac Members do that or not? I just started CrossFit in September and found out about the blog on my own, but I honestly don't remember anyone ever recommending to me that I check the website. I mostly just check to see if I'm supposed to be running that day or not! HA HA HA J/K!! I guess I'm wondering if everyone actually reads the blog every day? Not to excuse anyone for not signing up, but maybe it would be a good idea to send an email blast to all registered members with a little note to "sign up now!" Just a thought...
Posted by: Steve | February 15, 2012 at 07:22 PM
Just found out the Games website lets you look up information and media articles about your favorite athlete (=Danny N from TJs) so I am again....happy girl. Unhappy that it publishes your age as entered with no ability to hide it.
:-( I still want to be 29. Maybe will have to trick the system...hmmmm.
Posted by: Tashnelson | February 15, 2012 at 07:57 PM
We are at 92!!! You can do it!
Posted by: Justin Riley | February 15, 2012 at 08:03 PM
Can we sign up twice!!!!!!
Posted by: Liz | February 15, 2012 at 08:09 PM
Some people apparently signed up earlier but didn't get associated with CFES at that time. But you can go log back in and check your affiliation and update your info if necessary.
Posted by: Steller | February 15, 2012 at 08:17 PM

Posted by: Kate W. | February 16, 2012 at 09:17 AM
I've never been to your facility, but reading this post has turned me off from joining. Just sayin. Go ahead and call me an anonymous asshat!
