All I have to ask is WHEN are we having running technique clinic?
I'm curious who's going to compete tomorrow at Fittest of the Sierras?

Olga, I am happy to do the training with you, or if you find another person or two we can get the per-person cost down. Takes about 2 hours then you follow up on your own with a 6 week program of drills 3x per week that takes about 30 minutes per day.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right - so I'm looking for another person or two. Jamie P., are you with me?

Also, during the 6 weeks of drills, you will not be allowed to do any running in WODs or any running at all that is not part of the 6 week program. This is to ensure that the form sticks and you are not getting fatigued and reverting to/re-enforcing old habits.
Just got an email from Ted Martinez saying he's in. Trey and someone else from 6am also are willing, so maybe we can form 2 groups.

If you read carefully, you will see that Justin just gave everyone a free pass to get out of all running for 6 weeks... all you have to do is the technique work with him.
Barbell Club is up to 19 members. Programming starts next week, drop me an e-mail if you want to join in the fun! matthew@eastsaclaw.com

I highly recommend the running drills to everyone. 1/2 mile last night at the end of my drills and no back pain!

The snatch was great this morning. After the 6AM WOD Matt P., Cherie and I did the initial barbell club evaluation with Travis.
My first time with the banana slam method and I was going back through my logs and I got a 10# squat snatch PR- still a lot of room to work on it, but instant improvement.
Matt, thanks for getting this together and Travis thanks for doing this for us.

Banana slam? Does that mean you bounce the bar off your junk? I tried googling it but couldn't find any references...

That's a really funny post w/ Homer! I'm assuming a lot of people don't show up on run-day...? I guess I wouldn't really know LOL!

Pretty sure its called the "hit and catch" not the banana slam.

Nice video Matt. I can now see why it was referred to as the "banana slam" It seems like a good training technique. Do you actually contact the hips just as much when you're doing the entire snatch or is that just for training purposes?
Posted by: Steve | June 15, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Steve... I dunno yet. The guys that use the hit and catch seem to really use the hit to get the bar moving as well as a cue to open the hips and finish. Those guys lift a lot more than I do, so I am going to give it a try for this Oly Season.
Steve- I didnt get your e-mail for the barbell club... matthew@eastsaclaw.com

Steve, ideally you hit the bar. If you get that and the full extension the weight flies up. In my opinion it also really speeds up your drop below the bar. Seems to be a pretty big jump forward in technique all around. I hear the detractors complain it can be inconsistent, but it's got a few things going for it- one its simple, two it works for me, and three- its got a cool name.

I will advocate this technique for making things simple, but watch the tip, cause if you hit that you aint lifting shit.

Homer has an uncanny resemblance to my friend Tannman. It's just two miles Russ!
