CFES member Matt Smith is co-pastor of The Table, a church located a few blocks away from us on H St. He recently interviewed me about CrossFit and used clips from our interview in his message to the church a couple weeks ago.
The message started off with a brief description of CrossFit and how it started as well as how Matt became involved in CrossFit. He showed the congregation some movements we use and explained to them how we scale things to meet the needs of people of different abilities.
Matt draws parallels about the community aspects of CrossFit that make it so successful as well as our measurable workouts and goal setting mentality.
It was a pretty intersting message that he delievered and neat that he was able to use the CrossFit model as a model by which his church could use to progress in thier faith.
If anyone is interested in listening to the podcast of the sermon, you can find it by clicking here and scrolling down to CrossFit & Church on 8/26/12.

Justin, did they have to re-bless the church after you visited? Although it sounds like there was an interview with you and clips were played (yeah, I listened to the 40 minute pod cast).
Finding out that Matt (who is also my neighbor) is a pastor reinforces the fact I am going bad places when I die after some of the jokes I have told him (I also flipped off a nun once, totally different story she cut me off in traffic).
On a more serious note though, the community and goal setting aspects of crossfit translate over into all kinds of endeavors and businesses very well. The focus on doing your best and encouraging others to do so as well significantly changes the way you approach dealing with problems.

Yeah, at the risk of getting specific namaste message from Justin (refer to infamous yoga post a couple of years ago) I'd like to ask can/should we bring yoga mats for Moga classes?

Matt -- awesome!

Olga- yes. I'd imagine it wouldn't hurt to bring one. I'm going to bring mine, even if I don't use it.
Congrats to all our people who competed in Solano today! And to those who came out for today's workouts here at CFES. Progress is being made everywhere we look. Let's have a nice day off tomorrow (Moga included) and come back ready to go next week!
